It’s fall y’all. Ha!
I just love to say that.
We are having a Fall Progressive Dinner Party. Say what!?
A little part of my I-live-in-a-small-town-sheltered-from-the-world-self had to google what that even meant.
Oh yes, I did.
And then a giant part of me thought…you have been deprived of this lovely idea for 32 years. Not fair.
Just in case you were living under a rock like me here is what you have been missing out on…
PROGRESSIVE DINNER: {the definition} a dinner party with successive courses prepared and eaten at the residences of different hosts.
So that’s what we are doing today…except virtually of course.
Now give me a minute while I lick the cheesy-buttery-goodness off the plate and attempt to be present during this blog post.
O-M-GEEEE it’s that good.
And yes, I just said “y’all” and “O-M-Gee” within the same paragraph.
I can’t help it. This recipe does that kind of thing to me.
I have shared this recipe before, but I lacked the “after” photos.
And really…you can’t get the full affect without the after photos.
I layer this puppy up with lots-o cheese.
Because really, cheese makes everything better. Unless you’re allergic to dairy.
Ahem.
I typically make this recipe the night before…throw it in the fridge so that when I’m off work the next day all I have to do is pop it in the oven.
Don’t you love recipes that make life easier? And account for all of your calories for the entire day.
Unimportant. unimportant.
Plus, I promise you this isn’t like the I-just-ate-a-big-mac-and-now-I-feel-guilty calorie stealers.
This is like the that-was-totally-worth-every-stinking-bite-and-then-some moments.
Get your paws outta there 6 year old.
No, really, he tried to eat it up as I was photographing it.
And mind you…he is the pickiest darn eater on the planet.
So that’s all the proof I need that your gonna love you some homemade mac-n-cheese.
The proof ain’t in the pudding. It’s in the CHEESE, y’all!
- 1 block Velveeta Cheese
- 1 block colby cheese {small}
- 1-2 cups whole milk
- 8 Tbsp Butter
- 3 cups elbow macaroni
- You will need a 13×9 baking dish.
- First, I like to boil some water and cook my pasta. Make sure you don’t overcook it. You don’t want it to be too mushy.
- While my pasta is boiling I cut up my cheese in to small slices. I layer the bottom of my baking dish with both kinds of cheese and ⅓ a stick of butter. Then I add a layer of cooked pasta {drained} over the cheese. Top it with more cheese and butter. Another layer of pasta. Another layer of cheese and butter.
- Add the milk. I like the milk to fill up the pan about half way.
- Bake on 375 degrees for 45-60 minutes or until cheese is golden brown.
And now…you MUST take a trip to my friend’s homes so you can TRULY be a part of this progressive dinner party!
